JC A-level H2 Mathematics
A-level H2 Mathematics prepares students adequately for university courses including mathematics, physics and engineering, where more mathematics content is required. The H2 Mathematics syllabus aims to develop mathematical thinking and problem solving skills in JC students. Topics covered include Functions and Graphs, Sequences and Series, Vectors, Complex Numbers, Calculus, Permutations and Combinations, Probability, Probability Distributions, Sampling, Hypothesis Testing, and Correlation and Regression. Students will learn to analyse, formulate and solve a variety of problems, and learn to work with data and perform statistical analyses.
JC A-level H1 Mathematics
A-level H1 Mathematics provides a foundation in mathematics for students who intend to enrol in university courses such as business, economics and social sciences. The H1 Mathematics syllabus aims to develop mathematical thinking and problem solving skills in JC students. It covers Functions and Graphs, Calculus, and Statistics. A major focus of the syllabus will be the understanding and application of basic concepts and techniques of statistics. This will equip students with the skills to analyse and interpret data, and to make informed decision.
The Tutor and His Teaching Approaches
Our in-house tutor for the JC A-level H2 and H1 Mathematics tuition programmes is Mr Max Tan Yew Meng. Mr Max Tan was the Head of Mathematics Department of Hwa Chong Institution, a premier junior college in Singapore. He was also an Assessment Officer from the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board. With more than a decade of teaching experience, Mr Max Tan adopts a repertoire of teaching strategies to facilitate learning in a variety of ways for the development of conceptual understanding and skills proficiencies. These include direct instruction, guided discovery, investigative approach, open approach, problem-based learning and so on. The selection of strategies depends greatly on the content to be taught and the abilities, needs and interests of students.
Our Resources
At TRUE, the use of technological aids is integral to the learning of A-level mathematics in our JC Mathematics tuition programmes. It allows students to learn mathematics in practical and meaningful contexts. Besides, our students are provided with summarised revision notes for each topic to help them to recap and understand the key concepts better. Discussion questions are used to provide cognitive challenge for students. These include higher-order questions and open questions to help students focus on key concepts, deepen their understanding, make connections, and apply mathematical ideas and skills in different contexts. UCLES examination reports are also used to correct misconceptions and mistakes made by students at the A-level H2 and H1 Mathematics examinations. In the course of the programme, games are often employed to engage students in the learning process.
