IB HL & SL Mathematics Tuition
IB HL Mathematics
True Learning offers a IB HL Mathematics tuition programme that prepares our students to excel in the IBDP Examinations. Our IB HL Mathematics programme focuses on developing important mathematical concepts in a comprehensible, coherent and rigorous way. Students embarking on this programme would expect to develop insight into mathematical form and structure, and would be intellectually equipped to appreciate the links between concepts in different topic areas.
The Tutors and their Teaching Approaches
Our IB HL Mathematics programme is developed by Mr Max Tan. Mr Max Tan was the Head of Mathematics Department of the Shanghai Singapore International School, a premier IB school in Shanghai. He has also taught in Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), a top IB school in the world. With a team of experienced and IB-trained Mathematics teachers, we adopt a repertoire of teaching strategies to facilitate learning in a variety of ways for the development of conceptual understanding and skills proficiencies. These include direct instruction, guided discovery, investigative approach, open approach, problem-based learning and so on. The selection of strategies depends greatly on the content to be taught and the abilities, needs and interests of students.
At True Learning, the understanding of mathematical concepts and its application is an integral part of our IB HL Mathematics Programme. It equips our students with the competency in handling unfamiliar or complex mathematical problems. In addition, our students are provided with summarised revision notes for each topic to help them to recap and understand the key concepts better. Discussion questions are used to provide cognitive challenge for students. These include higher-order questions and open questions to help students focus on key concepts, deepen their understanding, make connections, and apply mathematical ideas and skills in different contexts. IB examination reports are also used to correct misconceptions and mistakes made by students at the IB HL Mathematics examinations.
